Ireland; Dublin to New Ross

{Sunday October 5th}

We got up around 7a this morning to get ready and head back to the airport. We checked out of our room and called the airport to confirm that the bag had arrived, which it indeed has...  always a good sign.  We got to the airport shortly after 8a and I dropped Paul off to go and get the bag. It a was about 8:40a by the time we left the airport, but we were glad to have the bag back.

 From the airport, we worked our way towards the south end of the city, passing through some very nice neighbourhoods and past Aviva Stadium. We found a little newsstand/deli to get some breakfast, which was a bagel with some bacon (peameal), sausage and cheese on it. It was a little sketchy, but it tasted delicious and fit in with our quest to not eat anywhere "recognizable".

Dun Leary Pier
From there we continued on towards Brighton Hall and got to Laura and Elliott's for church around 10a. We were able to borrow a pair of scissors from them, we meant we were able to get into our suitcases, which meant we were able to finish getting ready for church.. always a bonus. Their church starts at 11a.

Laura and Elliott asked us to stay for lunch, so we had a delicious ham dinner with a creamy parsley sauce, corn and peas, broccoli and carrots, and - of course - potatoes. Their kids, Zara, Hugo, and Fione are quite adorable, especially with their Irish accents. We finished our lunch off with apple pie topped with custard sauce. After a nice visit, we all went to the Dun Leary pier and walked out to the lighthouse. It was a nice afternoon for a walk, although windy and cool.

Glendalough
After our walk, we returned to their house for tea (which is never only tea), and then went on our way around 4p.

We headed south out of Dublin towards New Ross, stopping off briefly in Glendalough. It's a quaint little town with some neat ruins in an old cemetery. The landscape is quite scenic.

We continued on towards New Ross and arrived into the town around 7:30p. We had a bit of difficulty figuring out where we were going, but we did get as close as wandering down a narrow one lane road.  After a few laps up and down the lane way, a man came along and pulled over.  We asked if he would be able to help us as we were having trouble finding our way, to which he did not have any hesitation agreeing with our plight.  He kindly escorted us right to the driveway of our destination.

Modern home with converted barn
The house we are staying in tonight is absolutely amazing. It's a massive old home that's been fixed up and converted to an open concept modern home. The attached barn has been converted to a three bay garage with a two bedroom apartment above. It is very open concept and has a nice fire place in the living room. We arrived around 8p and were quite glad for some warmth and heat, as it was rainy and cool outside!

We had a pumpkin ciabatta with smoked cheddar as an easy dinner, and tried the white apricot cheese that we picked up.  Their cheese are quite inexpensive.

We finished off the day by skyping mom and dad to let them know how our trip was going.
